Sidney B. Mitchell (USA)

Sidney B. Mitchell (1878 -), Berkeley, Kalifornien Director, Graduate School of Librarianship, Univ. of California. Er begann 1901 mit der Züchtung und Sammlung von Iris und importierte viele der besten Sorten aus Europa, so dass eine große Sammlung entstand. Im Jahr 1919 begann mit dem Handel, verkaufte sein Unternehmen später jedoch an Salbach.

Ihn verband eine enge Zusammenarbeit mit dem Züchter William Mohr. Nach dessen Tod übernahm er dessen Sämlinge und Aufzeichnungen und führte die Züchtungsarbeit fort. Dabei entstanden viele hervorragende Sorten. Neuzüchtungen aus den Jahren 1923 -1936, welche aus der Sämlingsarbeit William Mohrs hervorgingen, ließ er auf den Namen Mohr-Mitchell eintragen. (Frieda Mohr, Purissima, California Gold, ...) Ab 1932 registrierte er jedoch auch etliche eigene Sämlingen auf sich selbst. (Naranja, Santa Cruz, Desert Gold, ...) Zudem hat er auch viel mit Narzissen gearbeitet.
 

Sidney B. Mitchell (1878- ), Berkeley, Calif. In 1919 began selling but later sold his business to Salbach. He was associated in his breeding work with William Mohr and at the latter's death Mr. Mohr's seedlings and records passed into Dr. Mitchell's possession and he has continued the work, producing many superb varieties such as Frieda Mohr, Purissima, California Gold, etc. After 1932 he has had registrated also further iris by own name. (Naranja, Santa Cruz, Desert Gold, ...) He has done much work with Narcissi also.
